The things your memory stores

The other day I went to the grocery store with my mother-in-law. As soon as we walked in and I saw the greeter I told my mother in law that he looked familiar. It just wouldn't leave me. I couldn't place him and it was driving my crazy. While my mother in law checked out I went to get the truck and decided to ask him his name on my way out. Here is how the conversation went:

Me: You look so familiar to me. What is your name?

Greeter: Antonio M (...something I can't pronounce)

Me: Well, your name isn't familiar to me at all. Maybe I knew someone that looked like you.

Greeter: Yeah, they say everyone has a twin. Maybe you knew mine.

Me: But gosh, you look like someone from my childhood. Oh well.

Greeter: Well, have you lived out here your whole life?

Me: No, I grew up in Mesa for a while.

Greeter: Oh, I lived in Mesa for years and just moved out here. I delivered mail there.

Me: Huh, where did you deliver mail? (Asking just out of curiosity.)

Greeter: Lindsay and Baseline.

Me: Um, that's were I lived.

Greeter: What was your last name?

Me: Richardson, but that was years ago. I moved when I was 10 years old.

Greeter: Do you remember your address?

Me: XXXX E. Javalina Cir.

Greeter: (With a very stunned look on his face...) That was my route. I was your mail man.

At that point we didn't really know what else to say. "Ummm, you did good. Thanks for all the bills. My parents loved them. See ya." We both got a good laugh out of it and I left but started wishing my short term memory was a good as my long term.

5th Grade Reunion

Last night the funniest thing happened. Jared and I had a wedding reception to go to in the Valley (among other things). We had just walked in and started talking to some people when I heard some one call my name. There was a girl sitting there and for a second I'm thinking "who are you!?" when I realize it was my best friend from fifth grade! When I moved to Queen Creek (which was called Higley at the time and is actually now Gilbert but it's just easier to say Queen Creek because it pretty much is) I was so nervous to start at a new school. I had lived in Mesa my whole life and had good friends there. On my first day of fifth grade at Higley Elementary, Mandy Burrell was the first person to talk to me. We became the best of friends. You seriously don't know any two girls that had more fun. I have so many fun memories of us. To this day any time I hear "Any Man of Mine" by Shania Twain I think of her. My little brother Travis called her Mandy Jackson for some reason and it has just stuck. If we ever talk about her that is how we refer to her. After fifth grade I switched schools and we lost touch and only saw each other once by pure happen-stance. It was so fun to talk with her. It felt like we picked up right where we left off- laughing and having a good time just like we always did. I'm so excited to reconnect with her. I love good friends!

This one's for you Ashby!

Ashby, I just thought I would let you know what I finally did! The best part of it all is that it was Addie's idea. She begged, cried, drew pictures of herself (with no hair!) asking Jared if she could cut it and wouldn't back down. We finally decided that if she wanted it that bad we should just let her. She loves it!

Our uneventful-eventful camping trip

A few weeks ago Heather and Doug invited us to go camping with them this weekend. We were really looking forward to it! Heather and Doug and literally professional campers. You will never camp with any one else like them. I promise you that. Anyway, it seemed like everything that could go wrong did and we could just never get on the road. (Be prepared to read the work "then" a lot.) Long story short, I didn't have anything to drive for two days so I didn't get to do my shopping until the very last minute. I forgot to tell Jared where the keys were to the toy hauler so he couldn't load the 4-wheeler until I got home. Once we got everything in and were ready to go Jared saw something on his truck that needed to be adjusted. Then we had to go park his work trailer at his uncles. While we were parking it we found out that our little 2-year old cousin was missing so Jared left to go help look for him. (Don't worry they found him safe and sound. He was with his Dad the whole time. Ooops!) Then once we left I realized I didn't bring the directions so we had to turn around look for them. Never found them. By then we were ready to eat so we stopped to grab some yummy take out Mexican. We were eating while driving and sure enough we get pulled over. The running lights on the trailer weren't working. We got that worked and and finally got about 6 miles or so from Heber and we see all of this smoke shining through the headlights of the car behind us. At first we thought that it was the brakes because they had just been worked on. As soon as Jared got out of the truck he could smell transmission fluid. He looked to see that there was a nice steady stream of transmission fluid coming out. We called our Aunt and Uncle's head mechanic and asked him to come and tow us. Then our friend come get the trailer and take us home. We were not quite 30 minutes from home but we knew we would have to wait a while. It was great to have our camping stuff because we pulled out the chair and grabbed the DVD player and watched a movie. Jerome, the mechanic, got there and loaded up the truck and we jumped in with Ty and headed home. We love only about 45 minutes from where we were going to camp but the whole ordeal took 3 and a half hours. I realized that we have great friends who dropped everything on a Friday night to come and help.

The next morning we decided to go out in my truck and see Heather and Doug. The girls had a great time getting filthy dirty (but no one got as dirty as Kennedy!). Addie and Kennedy got in some good girl talk. They made us laugh so hard. They got their chairs and went off away from anyone and sat and talked. Just like teenagers would.

And of course Heather and I had to get in a good game of Scrabbs.

Kimber and Kennedy got their Olympics in as well.
