Sister Goals

I have a handful of memories of my Grandma and her sisters.  I have memories of them quilting, acting out little skits, taking trips to places like Hawaii or Nauvoo, having picnics at the cemetery while sitting on their mom's grave.  But my greatest memories are how often they laughed and how close of friends they were!  And it's something I have always longed for in my relationships with my own sisters.

My grandma and her sisters had a unique bond.  They were more than sisters, they were best friends.  They giggled together, they shared their ups and down, they worked together, they worked hard at creating memories, and most importantly, they loved each other.

As young kids, my two older sisters and I fought.  A lot.  We fought about clothes, messes, chores, little irritations, shared responsibilities, and personality differences.  And my dad would always remind us that one day we would grow up to be best friends.

He was right.

In my Patriarchal Blessing, it urges me to stay close to my family.  I have tried hard to keep that as a priority and as I get older, I can see that my efforts pay off. Each of my sisters (and brothers!) has their own unique strengths that I draw from, each has learned lessons that I try to apply to my own life, and each has their own special talents that brings something special to our friendship.

A few weeks ago Heather and Annie came to town to spend a few days with me and Bethany.  I think it's one of the greatest memories we've ever created as sisters.  We didn't have a schedule, a project, anywhere to be; we just took time to be together and enjoy ourselves.  We were relaxed, we laughed, we made plans, we talked- we did everything I think my Grandma and her sisters did together.

And I think that is exactly what my dad knew would happen when he told us we would end up being best friends one day.  He knew we would be just like my Grandma and her sisters.
