Because it would be too hard to go back and remember everything I'll just do a quick run-through of our year so far.
January- Got a new computer. Our other one gave us fit and fit after fit so I made an executive decision and bought a Mac using some Christmas money we received. I've never looked back and have been happy with the change. Best of all, the box made a great reading spot.
On the 18th we celebrated Jared's 32nd birthday.
With the infamous Hungarian Sponge Cake. It's a time consuming and I-do-it-because-I-love-you cake.
Somewhere during this month I found out we were expecting another Hatch.
Little Lucy kept herself busy while her sisters were at school. I enjoyed my time with her alone although we always looked forward to 2:15 when it's time to pick up the girls.
In February I turned 31. I remember I was not feeling well this day at all but my family did such a good job of making it special anyway. Jared's aunt across the street fed us and once Jared got done with Bishopric duties he was able to join us. After that party, we came home where I opened presents from my kids and Jared. The best gift I got? New sheets! I was hating mine and wanted some nice, new, soft sheets. Got em!
I persevered through the pregnancy nauseousness with the help of a lot of these-
Coke to the rescue! Regular would do but if I could get my hands on a vanilla one that was even better. I kept that up for a few weeks and suddenly one day created a total aversion to it and haven't touched one since. Thank heavens too. I'm not a soda drinker and didn't want to become one.
Now this is the most unflattering picture of myself I have ever shared but I want to remember everything about being pregnant. This was one of the worst days I had. I had a lady here cleaning my house and although I tried to look busy I just couldn't do it so i quietly went in my bedroom and laid on my bed.
I wrote another article for Power of Mom's about being sick and getting through it.
Living for Wednesday
I’m just coming off of a stint with morning (read: all day) sickness. It’s typical for me to feel ill, tired, nauseous and have no appetite in the early stages of pregnancy and truthfully it was quite discouraging to plan this pregnancy knowing what was in store for me. But after a conversation on the matter with a good friend, she gave me the encouragement I needed and my husband and I decided it was time to grow our family, but this time I would have a changed attitude and things would be much better!
Or so I thought.
Within the year we got the news that our family would be growing and I was determined I would not let myself succumb to the long days of feeling ill and worn down. I knew it would come, but I was not about to let it get the best of me. Knowing I was living on borrowed time, I took the advice of my friend and stocked my freezer with everything from lasagna and enchiladas to cookies and brownies for the kids’ lunches before the sickness began.
And then it started settling in. You know the feeling. Nausea. Food aversions. Tired beyond explanation. Thankfully for me vomiting is not in my gene make up, although there are times when I swore it would make me feel better, at least for a moment.
The days started getting longer and suddenly I felt like I was living a real-life version of the movie Groundhog Day. I tried to break it up. I tried getting creative and going somewhere new. I tried wearing a new outfit. I tried taking a pretty drive. But nothing changed. I was in a funk.
And for some reason that funk really reared it ugly head every Tuesday. Tuesday’s were especially bad for some strange reason. After a few of those I decided I was going to do everything I could to make the next one better! I woke up the next Tuesday morning with a new attitude and arsenal of ideas to make things better. I happily got up, showered and dressed in a great outfit. Nothing, still sick. I hit Subway with my youngest daughter. Nothing, still sick. I even treated myself to a manicure and pedicure. Still, I wanted nothing more than to go home and lie down.
I had tried so hard! Why wasn’t I feeling any better? Then it hit me. If Tuesday is going to be so bad, then I need to live for Wednesday because it can’t possibly top Tuesday!
And that’s just what I did. I still tried to stay positive and motivated but in the back of my mind I kept telling myself, “tomorrow is Wednesday!” Before I knew it Wednesday was here and I miraculously felt a little better.
Within a matter of a few months the sickness was gone and I am now enjoying my pregnancy, but it was a serious lesson to me that hard days (or weeks, or months or for some, years) will come and one of the ways we can get through them is to look for a bright tomorrow.
As moms we have hard days. Some one is sick (possibly long-term), jobs are lost, days are long, money is tight, messes are made, things don’t go as planned. But there is a bright tomorrow. Maybe it’s not a literal tomorrow but there is an ending to the difficulties somewhere in your future.
While going through it I had to remind myself that my body is working hard for a good cause; it’s growing a human being for crying out loud! And so are you! It’s difficult, we want to lie down, we try new things, we get out but nothing changes. Remember, you are growing a human being- you!
With that growth comes pain, heartache, trails, long days, a real-life Groundhog Day effect and more. But look to the future when those things happen. Remind yourself that this can not last forever and that once it has passed you will be rewarded; be it a sweet baby held in your arms or new-found wisdom, patience, or appreciation for the good things in your life.
We are lucky enough to be good friends with Joe Cerreta of Cerreta Candy Co. We have an open invitation to come tour the factory whenever we want and are always sent home with gobs of free goodies. We love the special treatment we get there! In February I took my girls, along with my mom and niece Kennedy for a tour.
I worked really hard at keeping myself busy in order to stay focused on something other than feeling ill. I played beauty shop with Lucy which didn't end so well for me.
Ate my fair share of Subway sandwiches. (Yuck! But I could choke it down at the time.)And decided I deserved a pedicure.
On the 28th of February my little Kimbie turned 6. Where are all her birthday pictures? I'm wondering if I even took any!
The aftermath and the junk box. I love our tradition of a junk box that I've carried on from my childhood.
Sometimes you get a present just right and that's just what I did with this swimming suit. We can't even remember anything else she got but she still adores her swimming suit.

In all my pregnant glory, my little Kimber got a store bought cake but she was as happy as could be since we topped it with trick candles.
Another tradition we have is birthday date night. On the weekend closest to your birthday you get to join mom and dad on their date and eat where ever you would like. Kimber wanted spaghetti from Red Devil.
March-
Addie turned 8 on the 5th and was baptized on the 9th. She's a great girl who was more than ready for her baptism.
We have two extras in this picture- our bishop and our little cousin Lily. We'd claim her any day though.
At the end of the month we got a sneak peak at our new addition-
And packed up some of my non-maternity clothes.
Every Friday Lucy and I would go to the school and have lunch with Addie. It's something we always looked forward to.
May-
This was a big month for our family. I made a rush trip to the Valley to be with my grandma who was dying. I hope this picture aren't disturbing to anyone. Dying is not a pretty process but it's something I'm used to so if you think it might bother you, scroll on.
It was nothing short of a miracle that all of my sisters were able to be there, especially Bethany who "just happened" to be here from Wisconsin. If that's not a miracle then i don't know what is. This picture was taken on a Saturday. We laughed the day away as we sat around her bed. We laughed as we clipped her toe nails and rubbed her legs with lotion. She died later that night while it was just her and my mom.
On Monday our family left for our long awaited trip to California. Our first stop was the beach.
We spent the next two days at Disneyland.
As soon as we got back it was all funeral. The service was wonderful and so peaceful with lots of laughs- just like Grandma would like it. We then headed to Scottsdale where she was laid to rest next to my Grandpa.
This is a very normal picture for my family- everyone laughing. This is what I love about the Richardson's.What better time for a family photo shoot than a funeral?
We made it home just in time for the last week of school. My, how the girls have changed since school started.
June-
We celebrated Grandpa Miller's 82nd birthday. It will probably be the last time we all gather like that before his funeral.
